NEW HAVEN-BASED BUSINESS EARNS NATIONAL AWARD FOR LEADING ON-SITE GENERATION
PROGRAM

NEW HAVEN, CT- (October 20, 2010) — Phoenix Press announced today that it has received a 2010
Green Power Leadership Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The annual
awards recognize the country’s leading green power purchasers for their commitment and contribution
to helping advance the development of the nation’s voluntary green power market. EPA presented
Phoenix Press with the award at an event held in conjunction with the 2010 Renewable Energy Markets
Conference in Portland, Ore. on October 20, 2010.

Phoenix Press was one of only two organizations nationwide to receive a Leadership Award for the on-
site generation of green power. The award recognizes EPA Green Power Partners who distinguish
themselves using on-site renewable energy applications, such as solar photovoltaic (PV) or wind energy
projects. This year, the company installed a 100-kilowatt (kW) wind turbine on the plant property,
making Phoenix Press the first printer in America providing its clients with printing manufactured using
on-site wind power coming from its own large-scale wind turbine. Phoenix Press is currently generating
more than 160 thousand kilowatt-hours (kWh) of wind power annually, which is enough green power to
meet more than 30 percent of the organization’s electricity use.

“We are proud to receive this prestigious award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency,” said
Phoenix Press, President and Co-Owner, Brian Driscoll. “Producing green power on-site helps our
organization become more sustainable, while also sending a message to others across the country that
supporting clean sources of electricity is a sound business decision and an important choice to fight
climate change” added Driscoll.

Green power is electricity that is generated from environmentally preferable renewable resources, such
as wind, solar, geothermal, biogas, biomass and low-impact hydro. These resources generate electricity
with a net zero increase in carbon dioxide emissions, while offering a superior environmental profile
compared to traditional power generation sources. Green power purchases also support the
development of new renewable energy generation sources nationwide.

“EPA congratulates our leadership award winners for demonstrating by example the importance of
using clean, renewable energy,” said Gina McCarthy, Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation at
EPA. "By using green power, Phoenix Press is leading the way toward cleaner air and a healthier
environment while helping advance the market for renewable energy.”

According to the EPA, Phoenix Press’s current green power usage of more than 160 thousand kWh is
equivalent to avoiding the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of more than 20 passenger vehicles per year,
or is the equivalent amount of electricity needed to power more than 10 average American homes
annually.

In addition to its wind turbine, Phoenix Press uses vegetable based ink, is FSC Certified-(using paper
from well-managed forests), has an extensive recycling program and is continually improving on energy
efficiency throughout their 56000 sf printing plant.

About Phoenix Press
Founded in 1982 by three brothers who had a passion for old-time customer service and modern
printing methods, Phoenix Press has grown to one of the most well-equipped, and progressive-thinking
commercial printers in the nation. Their vision was to create a shop that would satisfy the needs of
customers without compromise. Today, Phoenix Press is still owned and operated by the Driscoll
brothers, and remains a family-run business. Phoenix Press’s 60,000-square-foot modern facility and
staff of 45 printing professionals all committed to the company’s original vision.

In 2010, the company installed a 100-kilowatt wind turbine on the plant property, making Phoenix the
first printer in America providing their clients with printing manufactured using on-site wind power
coming from their own large-scale wind turbine. The wind project was made possible through a grant
from the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund. For more information on Phoenix Press please visit

About EPA’s Green Power Partnership
The Green Power Partnership is a voluntary program that encourages organizations to buy green power
as a way to reduce the environmental impacts associated with purchased electricity use. The
Partnership currently has nearly 1,300 Partner organizations voluntarily purchasing billions of kilowatt-
hours of green power annually. Partners include a wide variety of leading organizations such as Fortune
500® companies, small and medium sized businesses, local, state, and federal governments, and
colleges and universities. For additional information, please visit http://www.epa.gov/greenpower.

About the Green Power Leadership Awards
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) co-sponsors the annual Green Power Leadership
Awards in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Energy and the Center for Resource Solutions.
EPA recognizes winners in the following awards categories; Green Power Partner of the Year; On-site
Generation; Green Power Purchase, and Green Power Community of the Year. EPA’s Purchaser awards
recognize the exceptional achievement among EPA Green Power Partners who distinguish themselves
through green power procurement, market leadership, overall green power strategy, and overall impact
on the green power market. The Awards are held in conjunction with the Renewable Energy Markets
Conference. For additional information please visit http://www.epa.gov/greenpower/awards/.

Gus(t) uses Wind to Print

Clean, renewable energy is a reality for Phoenix Press, Inc. The company has installed a wind turbine —
nicknamed Gus(t) — to capture electricity from passing breezes. Phoenix Press is the only printer in the country
using on-site wind power for its operation. The turbine is designed to produce 100,000 kilowatts annually, which is
equivalent to the electricity needed to power nine average households per year.

Phoenix Press is in a redevelopment district in New haven where there are many
family-owned businesses. Located at a windy site at the mouth of the Quinnipiac
and Mill Rivers and on Long Island Sound, the Phoenix Press turbine tower is
121' tall and each of the three blades is 35' long. The interesting thing about
siting the wind turbine — which included a public hearing — was that it did not
raise a single negative comment from the neighboring businesses. It mostly just
raised curiosity and awareness. and the public has been coming into Phoenix Press (located right next to the
wind turbine) with lots of questions. “Is it yours? how much electricity does it generate? Why doesn’t it make any
noise? and the kids all say “It’s so cool…”  (Speaking of kids, thousands of New haven K-8 students participated
in a contest to name the turbine this spring. The winning name, Gus(t), was contributed by Jessica D’Errico from
Cold Spring School.)

Caring about the environment is part of the family-owned company’s culture; Phoenix Press has created a “WIND
to Print” logo to celebrate its renewable energy capabilities. The logo lets its customers show their dedication to a
clean environment when it appears on their printed materials.

Phoenix Press is currently expecting to generate about 30 percent of their power usage from the turbine. Since
the installation/commissioning in March 2010, the company has started to see actual savings by generating its
own power. about half of the funding for the project ($263,000) came from a Connecticut Clean Energy Fund
(CCEF) grant. The CCEF helps promote renewable energy and efficiency projects in the state through a variety
of programs. The grant made the project happen as the owners say they couldn’t have financed it alone
and now that they have reduced their energy costs,  the savings can be passed onto their customers.
